Corset sizing is not clothing sizing. Understanding the specific measurements and what they mean for fit and reduction is the foundation of choosing any corset successfully.

Measurements You Need
To size a corset, you need: Natural waist — the narrowest point of your torso, usually 1–2 inches above the navel. Measure relaxed, not held in. High hip — 3 inches below natural waist. Low hip/seat — the fullest point, usually 7–9 inches below natural waist. Underbust (for overbust corsets) — directly under the bust at the band line. Torso length — front and back, from the measurement you want the corset to start and end. These measurements, compared against a corset's size chart, determine which size to order.
Reduction: How Much to Choose
Reduction is the difference between your natural waist and the corset's waist measurement at full lacing. For a first corset and casual wear, 2–3 inches of reduction is comfortable. For dedicated waist training, 4+ inches is common but should be worked up to gradually. A corset ordered at your natural waist size will produce zero reduction — always order smaller. Most recommendations for first corsets suggest ordering 2 inches below natural waist.
Hip Spring
Hip spring is the difference between the corset's waist and hip measurements. A corset with a 26-inch waist and 38-inch hip has a 12-inch hip spring. Your natural hip spring (difference between your waist and hip) must be compatible with the corset's hip spring — if your natural hip spring is 14 inches and the corset's is 10 inches, the hip will be too tight even if the waist fits. This is a common fit failure, especially for curvier figures.
Corset Sizing vs Dress Sizing
Corset sizes are stated in inches (waist measurement), not dress sizes. A size-12 dress and a 28-inch corset are not automatically the same person — dress sizes vary by brand and country, while corset inches are consistent. Always measure; never assume your dress size translates directly to a corset size.
